The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday evening recovered suspected explosives from four abandoned bags in the Gwalior-Barauni Express train (11124) at Siwan Junction railway station under the Varanasi division of North Eastern Railway.

"The GRP personnel conducted a regular check in the train after receiving information about the smuggling of liquor. RPF havildar Sabbir Mian spotted four bags lying abandoned inside the coach. The bags were brought to the GRP post and explosives were suspected to be found in them. Senior officials in Patna were informed about the incident,” said Siwan GRP SHO Sudhir Kumar.

A bomb disposal team from Patna reached Siwan late on Wednesday night and evacuated the GRP station and its surroundings. They later took the bags containing the suspected explosives to Patna for forensic examination.

The discovery of the explosives caused a moment of panic among passengers at Siwan Station.
